AREEBA NAVEED

Pakistani filmmaker based in Ireland whose work explores the emotional and psychological struggles of women and marginalized groups within complex sociopolitical landscapes.

A Distinction graduate of the National College of Arts, Lahore, she gained early recognition with her thesis film Until The Quiet Comes (2020). Under a fellowship from the Norwegian Embassy, she wrote and directed A Coup (2020), followed by the BBC Urdu documentary Adhi Gawahi (2021), and the five-part crime thriller series Khoj (2023). In 2022, she received a grant from the Scottish Documentary Institute for her short documentary My Body, Your Choice? (2022).

Areeba recently completed a Master’s in Film Direction through the Kino Eyes program, during which she directed three short films in Portugal, Estonia, and Ireland. Her work has been screened at international festivals including IFFSA Toronto, Seoul International Pride Film Festival, Queer International Film Festival, Aesthetica Short Film Festival, Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival, FEST, North Edinburgh Film Festival, and Samizdat Eastern European Film Festival.
